About the Company

Our client is part of a reputable and growing group of companies, with operations based in Belfast. They are now seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant / Head of Accounts to join their finance team within, supporting the Group Finance Manager. This is a key hands-on role offering end-to-end responsibility across all core finance functions within a supportive and collaborative environment.


About the Job

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the day-to-day accounting operations, supporting month-end and year-end processes, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This is a role suited to someone who enjoys variety and autonomy, with strong technical accounting knowledge and proficiency in Sage 50 and Sage Payroll.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage full accounts function to trial balance including prepayments, accruals, and WIP
  • Prepare and post monthly journals, maintaining accurate financial records
  • Complete bank reconciliations (GBP & EUR)
  • Oversee purchase and sales ledgers and process VAT and RCT returns
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes and assist with external audits
  • Prepare management reports and assist the Group Finance Manager as required
  • Process payroll using Sage Payroll and ensure compliance with statutory requirements
  • Maintain and update Excel-based reports and reconciliations

Your Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in a similar Assistant Accountant or Head of Accounts role
  • Strong working knowledge of Sage 50 and Sage Payroll
  • Experience preparing accounts to trial balance
  • Strong understanding of VAT, RCT, and general ledger processes
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, reconciliations)
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive approach
