Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) is nationally recognised for its Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) service with ACPs embedded across 18 specialties. We are seeking committed, enthusiastic and compassionate individuals to train as an ACP and join our Respiratory team to deliver high‑quality care to patients.
Successful applicants will undertake an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice as an apprentice at the University of Nottingham and follow our supported and established three‑year ACP training pathway.
Main duties of the job
The respiratory department, led by senior consultants, delivers secondary and tertiary care. The team provides cover to the Respiratory Assessment Unit and Respiratory Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit, and offers an in‑reach service to ED for autonomous early intervention.
As a trainee ACP you will:
- familiarise yourself with the full job description and person specification;
- provide patient assessment and management in the Respiratory Assessment Unit and SDEC;
- contribute to the ED in‑reach service;
- undergo structured teaching, supervision and competency sign‑off;
- engage in portfolio development and non‑medical prescribing;
- prepare for and complete the annual viva and other gateway assessments.
Training pathway (yearly progression)
- Year 1 – Band 6, 15 h a week released for MSc year 1.
- Year 2 – Full‑time supernumerary; start work‑based learning, non‑medical prescribing modules, competency sign‑off and ACP mentorship. Successful completion may lead to Band 7.
- Year 3 – Complete all modules and portfolio; undertake VIVA; transition to rota with supervisory period. On completion move to Band 8a, qualified ACP.
Once qualified, the ACP will hold weekly rostered time for professional development and service development work in addition to clinical duties.
