Overview

We are looking for an experienced, innovative and enthusiastic clinical pharmacist to join our Emergency Care Team. As part of this well-established team of clinical pharmacists and technicians you will support the Lead Pharmacist in the development of our service to optimise medicines use and deliver patient-centred pharmaceutical care to patients on our acute admissions unit. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, training and clinical skills, proven leadership qualities, the ability to relate well to patients and members of the clinical team, good negotiating skills and a flexible approach. The Pharmacy department within West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust is located on three sites and has over 100 staff, with the main Pharmacy department based at Watford General Hospital. The department provides a stimulating, friendly and professionally rewarding environment for staff to develop their clinical expertise.

Responsibilities

The post holder will be an experienced clinical pharmacist who will be responsible for assisting the Pharmacy Team Leader in delivering, developing, and evaluating the day‑to‑day clinical pharmacy service to A&E, Ambulatory Care and Acute Admissions Unit within the Trust. They will provide expert advice on pharmaceutical matters, undertake risk management and ensure compliance with medicines legislation. They will facilitate and support medicines optimisation, putting the patient at the centre of their care, and delivering optimal quality, value and outcomes from medicines use. The post holder will participate in clinical audit and practice research in their area of speciality. Where qualified the post holder may also work under this job description as an independent pharmacist prescriber in an agreed area of competency to meet the local needs of patients and the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Qualifications

  • MPharm (or equivalent overseas degree).
  • Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Certificate in Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent).
  • MSc/Diploma in Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent).
  • Management Training.
  • Management Qualification.
  • Registered independent Non-Medical Prescriber.
  • Prescription Monitoring.
  • Computer and IT Literate.
  • Need for Confidentiality.
  • Well‑developed therapeutic and clinical pharmacy knowledge in appropriate area.
  • Up to date knowledge of national pharmacy issues.
  • Critical appraisal skills.
  • Preparation of written reports and procedures.
  • NHS organisational structure.
  • Health and Safety.
  • Post qualification experience in hospital pharmacy including experience in the specialty.
  • Recent experience in providing clinical pharmacy services to Emergency Care patients.
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Training pre-registration pharmacists and junior staff.
  • Audit/research and development.
  • Project management.
  • Managing Staff.
  • Clinical tutoring of postgraduate trainee pharmacists.
