We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and experienced Site Manager to oversee the maintenance, safety, and day-to-day operation of our school site. This is a key role in ensuring a safe, secure, and well-maintained environment in which our pupils can learn and thrive.

The successful candidate will take pride in the school’s appearance and functionality, playing a central role in everything from routine maintenance to larger site improvement projects. Working closely with the Headteacher and Finance & Business Manager, you will help ensure the effective use of resources while maintaining full compliance with health and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take a proactive approach to site development, ensuring the environment is safe, functional, and well-presented
  • Lead and promote a positive health and safety culture across the school
  • Manage all health and safety processes, including risk assessments, training, and statutory compliance checks (e.g. fire alarms, emergency lighting)
  • Conduct regular site inspections to maintain high standards of safety and presentation
  • Oversee the maintenance and efficient operation of buildings and utilities, carrying out minor repairs and redecoration as required
  • Plan and deliver an annual maintenance and improvement programme in collaboration with the Headteacher and Business Manager
  • Manage external contractors, ensuring work is completed to a high standard
  • Monitor budgets and manage ordering of caretaking and cleaning supplies
  • Report to the Governing Body on premises, health and safety matters
  • Support school events, including setting up furniture and equipment, and working flexibly when required
  • Act as a keyholder, responsible for site security, opening and closing the premises, and responding to out-of-hours emergencies

We Are Seeking a Professional Who

  • Has sound knowledge and experience of health and safety regulations and compliance
  • Is reliable, flexible, and able to prioritise workloads effectively
  • Can work independently using their own initiative, as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Is committed to following school policies, particularly in relation to safeguarding and site safety
  • Has good practical DIY skills; experience in a trade (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, painting/decorating) would be advantageous but is not essential
