Overview

Hackney’s Children & Families Service are now recruiting an experienced social worker to join our Emergency Duty Team (EDT).

Our EDT operates beyond regular working hours, employing workers in a shift pattern that includes evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays to provide critical services and support to children and families where it would not be safe, appropriate or lawful to delay intervention to the next working day.

Responsibilities

  • Triage all emergency children’s safeguarding referrals received whilst on duty, in conjunction with agencies such as the police and other emergency services where necessary.
  • Hold strategy discussions when concerns arise regarding significant harm.
  • Analyse, summarise and evaluate information received out of hours to arrange interim support aimed at safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Take action to ensure the safety of the child when required.
  • Act as the corporate parent on behalf of the local authority to ensure the well‑being of looked‑after children.
  • Provide support and advice to families in urgent cases and coordinate with day‑time services to ensure smooth handover of information.

Qualifications

  • Social work qualification or equivalent.
  • Registered with Social Work England.
  • Post‑qualifying experience working with Children’s Social Care.
  • Enhanced DBS check is required.

  • Work with a high degree of autonomy and flexibility.
  • Remote work, with occasional travel to the Hackney offices.
