NMGH New Hospital Project Safety Manager

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is planning the North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH) Redevelopment Programme which will deliver a new hospital and health campus at the existing North Manchester General Hospital site. This major investment will support the transformation of how we deliver services and create modern facilities that support world‑class clinical care for our communities.
The NMGH New Hospital Project Safety Manager will be an integral member of the Project Delivery Team responsible for planning, managing, coordinating and ensuring health & safety across all project and sub‑projects, providing construction health & safety advice during pre‑construction, construction and post‑construction stages, and conducting site inspections and audits.
Main duties of the job
The Manager shall ensure compliance with legal obligations related to the management and delivery of construction‑related projects, specifically the Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations 2015 and the Building Safety Act 2022.
The role will manage specialist construction related professional advisers, ensuring all parties are compliant and that projects adopt best‑practice health & safety measures. The Manager will draft, manage and review specific health & safety policies, produce regular compliance reports and deliver general awareness training and briefings.
The role is expected to contribute effectively to design and construction meetings and constructively challenge solutions, providing alternative solutions to embed best‑practice health & safety.

Person Specification
- Degree in a relevant discipline / construction or health and safety-related discipline, or demonstration of relevant transferable knowledge and experience
- Post‑graduate qualification to Masters level or equivalent experience
- NEBOSH Diploma or similar technical or professional qualification
- A thorough knowledge of the CDM regulations (2015) and associated legislation
- Knowledge of the Building Safety Act (2022) and its requirements / application
- Understanding of the design process and the principles of risk reduction in complex capital projects
- Knowledge and an understanding of technical design processes, specifically the context of construction health & safety, and technical drawings
- Knowledge of HTMs / HBNs
- Construction related technical design qualifications or equivalent experience
- Experience and knowledge of design processes and good hospital design principles
