Geo – Environmental Engineer/Contaminated Land Officer / Environmental Consultant (Contract)

Location: Primarily office-based with occasional site visits

Contract Length: Initial 6 months (with likely 3-month extension)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Rate: £35-£45 p/h

Overview

Our client is working closely with local councils on an environmental project focused on contaminated land. They are seeking a contractor to support the identification, assessment, and reporting of land contamination risks across both existing and newly identified sites. This is a great opportunity for someone with early-career experience looking to build on their technical knowledge within a structured project environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake contaminated land assessments across a range of sites
  • Review and analyse environmental and historical site data
  • Produce clear, accurate technical reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Support the identification of previously unrecorded or unassessed sites
  • Work collaboratively with local councils and internal teams
  • Conduct occasional site visits where required

Requirements

  • 2-3 years' experience in contaminated land, geo-environmental, or environmental consultancy
  • Understanding of contaminated land legislation and risk assessment processes
  • Experience in report writing and data interpretation
  • Ability to work independently within a project-driven environment
  • Strong communication and organisational skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience working with local authorities or public sector projects
  • Familiarity with UK contaminated land guidance (e.g. CLR11)

Contract Details

  • Initial 6-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension (project running through to next year)
  • Predominantly office-based role with limited site work
