The Company A well-established precision engineering business is looking to recruit a Design Engineer to join their growing engineering team. This is an opportunity to work on complex, high-specification products within a technically demanding environment, supporting both new product development and customer-driven design solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret customer specifications and translate them into engineered design solutions
  • Produce 3D models, engineering drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for manufacture
  • Design and develop new products using 3D CAD
  • Carry out engineering calculations and document findings clearly
  • Perform FEA analysis where required to validate designs
  • Analyse and document test data to ensure compliance with specifications
  • Ensure designs meet relevant industry standards (API, ISO, PED, ASME VIII)
  • Apply Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles
  • Support the transition of new products into production
  • Check drawings and BOMs for accuracy and completeness
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives
  • Act as a technical point of contact internally and occasionally with customers
  • Mentor junior engineers and support wider engineering activities
  • Participate in meetings across departments and occasionally attend customer sites
  • Support overall engineering strategy and departmental development

The Candidate

  • Degree or recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong experience using 3D CAD for design and drafting
  • Experience in concept and detailed design within an engineering environment
  • Experience with FEA analysis and engineering calculations
  • Familiar with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Experience using MRP/ERP systems to generate BOMs
  • Knowledge of quality management systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a logical and analytical approach
  • Able to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Confident communicator, able to work independently and within a team
