Job Description

  • Design detailed interaction patterns, component behaviours, and interface states for digital products and services
  • Produce high-fidelity prototypes to communicate and validate interaction logic with users and developers
  • Define and document micro-interactions, error states, validation patterns, and edge cases
  • Apply and extend the GOV.UK Design System, contributing reusable patterns where appropriate
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure accurate, accessible implementation of designs
  • Ensure all interface designs meet WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards and responsive design requirements
  • Work with UX designers and user researchers to refine interactions based on evidence
  • Maintain design system consistency and contribute to shared component libraries
  • Document interaction specifications clearly to support development handoff

Qualifications

  • Expert proficiency in Figma or equivalent design tooling, including component and variant management
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating interaction-level design decisions, prototyping, and design system work
  • Familiarity with the GOV.UK Design System and experience designing within or alongside established design systems
  • Working knowledge of HTML5 and CSS/Sass sufficient to collaborate effectively with front-end engineers
  • Understanding of WCAG 2.2 and practical application within interface design
  • Experience using AI tools to accelerate prototyping, pattern generation, or design documentation
  • Strong communication skills, with ability to present and justify interaction decisions to technical and non-technical audiences
