The Emergency Medicine directorate is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and innovative Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse to join the senior team on the 36 bedded Short Stay Unit at Royal Stoke. The SSU is part of the Acute Medical team, and we have a workforce model focused on providing safe and effective patient care, and leadership and development of the nursing team.
If you are a quality‑driven person wishing to deliver a high-quality service to our patients and their families, have the ability to work well within a dynamic and busy environment and wish to assist in the management and leadership of our junior staff, this post is for you. You will be offered excellent training and support within this post.
In this post you will be responsible for:
- The initial assessment of patients and providing an effective care pathway
- Taking charge of the unit, managing admissions and transfers of patients appropriately
- Developing a culture in line with our values that improves quality and enhances the patient experience
- Playing a vital part in developing new ways of working to achieve this goal

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
- Diploma in Nursing
- Evidence of degree level study in health/nursing related studies
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years post registration experience in acute medicine
Personal Qualities
- Problem solving and independent decision making
Skills
- Evidence of leading a team
