Service Engineer – Chromatography / Lab Instrumentation

Our client a specialist engineering business, are looking to hire a Field Service Engineer to support customers across the gas and instrumentation sector. The role combines laboratory work with occasional site visits, offering a varied and hands‑on environment.

Location: Chester – Site & Field based role

Salary & Benefits: Up to £43,000 per annum, 25 days annual leave + bank holidays, Life Insurance, Pension 4% Employee / 5% Employer, Private Health Care (employee only), Long Service Annual Leave Accrual, Overtime where applicable & Company pool car.

What will you be doing?

  • Provide technical support to clients and service engineers via phone and email
  • Calibrate, repair and service systems, mainly GC instrumentation
  • Prepare test equipment and support FATs with clients present
  • Assist with pre‑commissioning and commissioning activities on‑site and in‑house
  • Deliver remote support for reactive maintenance
  • Strip down and overhaul gas analysers, regulators and control valves
  • Carry out PLC/flow computer programming, configuration and fault finding
  • Compile reports and documentation for all customer activities
  • Support technically complex customer orders and internal teams
  • Join a 24/7 helpline rota once trained
  • Attend training courses relevant to the position.

The Person

  • Previous experience within a similar service role with instrumentation.
  • Experience or knowledge of PLCs
  • Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
  • Educated to HNC/HND or degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical Engineering or Analytical science.
  • Strong IT skills.
