Role Overview

The Multi Utility Project Manager is responsible for the installation of utility networks for a portfolio of projects. This includes managing customer relations, construction teams, and contractors to ensure networks are built safely, to specification, and to customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise the installation, testing, and commissioning of gas, water, fibre, electricity, and potential district heating mains, services, and associated equipment and meters in accordance with company standards and procedures.
  • Oversee health and safety matters related to the installation and commissioning of utility networks within the portfolio of projects.
  • Ensure employees and contractors work safely in accordance with approved procedures, method statements and risk assessments.
  • Maintain courteous, professional, and knowledgeable behaviour.
  • Be readily contactable, providing swift responses to enquiries from customers and employees.
  • Liaise with the customer to manage any complaints or issues arising from the works.
  • Manage a portfolio of projects to achieve customer satisfaction without compromising safety and quality.
  • Promote a positive and proactive safety culture with colleagues, engineering teams and contractors.
  • Instill the behavioural safety culture and progression along the ‘Bradley curve’.
  • Assist the Regional Construction Manager (RCM) with recruitment and induction of new engineering teams, ensuring compliance with Group recruitment, onboarding and induction procedures.
  • Appropriately manage all HR‑related matters in line with Group policies and procedures, seeking RCM or HR advice as necessary.
  • Complete and record annual performance reviews and competency assessments with direct reports to provide appropriate feedback and development.
  • Assist the RCM or Senior Project Manager with Health & Safety incident investigations.
  • Carry out and record annual performance reviews and competency assessments with direct reports to ensure appropriate feedback and development.
  • Perform any other duties as deemed appropriate by the RCM or Senior MUPM.
  • Assist the RCM in developing greater efficiency within the company.
  • Train customers’ site managers so they can competently manage the installation of works undertaken on our behalf.
  • Ensure correct materials are ordered, stored correctly and waste is minimised.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience and/or relevant qualifications.

Experience / Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of relevant current legislation, technical standards & specifications, codes of practice and guidance notes for Gas, Electricity, Water or Fibre Distribution Systems.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation.
  • Good practical working knowledge of other utilities to enable safe and efficient network construction management.

Abilities / Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, customer focused and highly driven with a high commitment level to health, safety and quality.
  • Proactive approach to project management and delivery of projects.

Desirable

  • Authorising Engineer registration (gas), Senior Authorised Person (electric) or NCO3 (water) qualifications.
  • Current NRSWA supervisory card, relevant SHEA card and CSCS registration.
  • Engineering or Project Management qualification.
  • Health and Safety qualification.
