Microsurgery and Major Trauma Fellow – Role Overview

From March 26 2012, University Hospital in Coventry officially became a Major Trauma Centre (MTC). Major Trauma care is delivered through an inclusive Trauma Network delivery model. A Trauma Network includes all providers of trauma care, particularly: pre-hospital services, other hospitals receiving acute trauma admissions (Trauma Units), and rehabilitation services. The MTC sits at the heart of this network as the centre of excellence providing multi‑specialty hospital care to seriously injured patients, optimised for the provision of trauma care. Within the Traumatic Network, the central England MTC covers Coventry, Warwickshire and parts of Northamptonshire, offering a multidisciplinary pathway of care for the most severely multiply injured patients in the East Midlands.

Key Responsibilities

• Report to the Plastic Surgery Trauma Consultant and provide reconstructive options to the Major Trauma team.
• Attend Major Trauma ward rounds, Major Trauma calls on site, and deliver medical handovers of patients for single specialty management or repatriation.
