Role

The GP Walk‑in Centre is based at Cardonald Health Centre in South Glasgow and will provide urgent primary care services to the local population. The service aims to improve access, reduce pressure on GP practices and minimise inappropriate Emergency Department attendances by offering rapid access to same‑day assessment for patients unable to secure a GP appointment.

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic Advanced Nurse Practitioners who have experience of working in primary care at an advanced level. Experience in Acute Care would be an additional advantage.

As an Advanced Practitioner you will practice autonomously in the assessment, diagnosis and appropriate management of patients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems. You will be supported by a team of GPs and nursing staff on site to deliver urgent care and appropriate interventions as required.

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

  • Location: Cardonald Health Centre
  • Fixed‑term contract for 12 months
  • Part‑time position – 24.5 hours per week (3 days a week) or 16.5 hours per week (2 days a week)
  • Salary is pro‑rata for part‑time hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess each patient’s needs and treat accordingly, utilising evidence‑based practice and advanced decision‑making skills to provide accurate diagnosis and management plans.
  • Implement advanced clinical care, incorporating clinical skills within agreed protocols and guidelines, and deciding on admission, referral and discharge.
  • Apply high‑level decision‑making and assessment skills to formulate appropriate differential diagnoses.
  • Request appropriate diagnostic tests and investigations where indicated, using judgement and clinical reasoning.
  • Interpret and analyse test and investigation results and work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals when needed.
  • Adopt a multi‑agency approach to provide person‑centred care throughout the continuum of care.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse on the NMC Register
  • Evidence of completion of Masters level education in Advanced Practice
  • Non‑medical Prescriber V300
  • Proven experience of working in primary care at an advanced level
  • Professional registration with NMC/HCPC
  • An appropriate Masters level qualification in Advanced Practice enabling competence in:
    • Clinical assessment
    • Clinical reasoning, judgement and diagnostic decision making
    • Anatomy and pathophysiology
    • Non‑medical prescribing V300
    • Leading, delivering and evaluating care
    • Practice learning/transferable work‑based learning
  • Significant post‑registration experience within a healthcare setting, some of which must be in acute care
  • Advanced Nurse Practitioner with primary care experience
  • A commitment to lifelong learning and evidence of continuing professional development
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) essential

Desirable

  • Experience in managing staff, leading a team, providing education and training and establishing a supportive, learning environment
  • Successful track record in working in multi‑disciplinary team settings and promoting collaborative approaches to delivering excellent patient care
  • Immediate Life Support
