We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Research Nurse or Clinical Research Practitioner to join the Research & Development team at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. In this key Band 6 role, you will support the delivery of an expanding portfolio of commercial and academic clinical trials, helping the Trust advance high‑quality, evidence‑based patient care.

You will independently manage a caseload of trial participants and work closely with multidisciplinary teams across our research sites. Key responsibilities include identifying, recruiting, educating and monitoring patients involved in clinical studies, ensuring all activity complies with ICH‑GCP, the UK Policy Framework for Health & Social Care Research, and local governance requirements.

Using your clinical expertise and understanding of study protocols, you will deliver research interventions, complete trial‑specific assessments, collect accurate data and maintain compliant study documentation. You will also support study feasibility, set‑up, regulatory submissions and capacity & capability processes.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced clinician or research practitioner with excellent communication and organisational skills, confidence working autonomously, and the ability to collaborate with clinical teams, research networks, sponsors and trial units. You will act as a knowledgeable resource for patients and colleagues and contribute to supervising junior research staff while upholding the Trust’s values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the set‑up, coordination and governance processes for clinical trials.
  • Identify, recruit and consent eligible participants, ensuring clear communication and informed decision‑making.
  • Deliver trial‑specific clinical procedures and monitor patients throughout their research pathway.
  • Maintain accurate study documentation, data entry and record management in line with GCP standards.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, research sponsors and support services.
  • Manage a personal caseload independently while supporting junior research staff.
  • Ensure compliance with research policies, safety standards and recruitment targets.
