Head of Schools Capital Projects needed in Liverpool Paying £608.35 per day ref OR99920

Full time hours on a temporary basis

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage internal teams of built environment Project Managers, Programme Managers, and legacy PFI / BSF teams, alongside external multidisciplinary consultancy teams
  • Deliver school expansion projects and the schools condition programme from inception through to completion
  • Lead the development of education capital programmes and individual projects, working collaboratively with sponsors, users, and the Department for Education (DfE)
  • Act as a senior point of contact, engaging with stakeholders including Directors of Education, Headteachers, Diocesan representatives, and the DfE
  • Act as the Intelligent Client for schools capital projects, ensuring clarity of brief, robust governance, and effective challenge
  • Ensure operational effectiveness and full compliance with the terms of PFI contracts, including effective management through to contract completion
  • Prepare and oversee consultancy briefs; procure, appoint, and manage professional consultants and service contracts
  • Develop and implement project delivery strategies, ensuring excellence in design quality, sustainability, cost control, and programme management
  • Embed sustainability objectives into project briefs, design development, and delivery
  • Prepare and manage programme and project budgets, financial reporting, risk management plans, and project programming
  • Ensure all projects have clear, deliverable programmes with defined milestones, robust risk registers, and appropriate controls
  • Oversee the delivery of the schools capital programme, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to agreed standards
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of DfE Building Bulletins, standards, policies, and approval processes, ensuring full compliance across projects
  • Undertake site visits as required, monitoring progress, quality, health and safety, and contractual compliance
