About The Role
We are looking for an experienced Substance Misuse Nurse to join our South Ayrshire service. This is a full‑time, fixed‑term 12‑month position requiring a driver’s licence and access to a vehicle. The salary range is £28,101–£30,000 per year.
Job Description / Responsibilities
As a Substance Misuse Nurse, you will deliver a range of health and wellbeing interventions, including harm reduction, to service users in alignment with our agreed model of care. You will assess care needs, develop and evaluate programmes, and provide high‑standard nursing care across multiple settings. You will act as an advocate, working closely with patients to identify physical, psychological, spiritual and social support needs, and will collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to deliver specific healthcare clinics and group education sessions.
Key Population
- Service users aged 16+ and residents of South Ayrshire
- Individuals who may be disengaging from core alcohol or drugs services or have recently accessed emergency services due to alcohol or drug use
- Individuals who have experienced a recent non‑fatal overdose

Essential Skills
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and post‑registration clinical experience
- Experience delivering nursing interventions in a community setting
- Proven ability to conduct comprehensive assessments, including risk evaluations
- Knowledge of safe storage, handling and administration of drugs, particularly controlled substances
- Capability to work constructively with diverse groups and individuals in varied settings
- Competence in assessing, implementing and evaluating care plans, responding to changes as necessary
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Preference for experience in drug and alcohol settings
