Cardiff and Vale UHBs in partnership with the Neurosciences and the Psychology & Psychological Therapies Directorate offers an exciting opportunity for a permanent, full-time, Band 7 or 8A HCPC Registered Clinical or Counselling or Neuropsychologist to join an established multi-disciplinary team. We provide specialised community-based neuro-rehabilitation to a regional service, covering Cardiff & Vale and Cwm Taf Health Boards.

It is essential for the postholder to hold a Postgraduate Practitioner Doctorate in Psychology (Clinical or Counselling) and to be a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist. Newly qualified clinical or counselling psychologists who will be eligible for HCPC registration are encouraged to apply. Knowledge and experience of applying psychology in medical (particularly neurological) settings is highly desirable, as is an enthusiasm for neuropsychology and multi-disciplinary teamwork.

This post is an opportunity for a permanent, full-time, Band 7 (development post) or Band 8a to gain experience in Neuropsychology and working with neurological conditions. Applicants applying at Band 7 level will be offered support to reach the required competencies in order to develop.

Main duties of the job

• To provide a specialised psychology service to adults with complex brain injury living in the community.
• The post holder will provide specialised psychological and neuropsychological assessments and interventions for patients and their families.
• The post-holder will offer advice and consultation on psychological care to the multi-disciplinary team and wider, working within national and professional guidelines and departmental procedures.
• The post-holder will be required to supervise more junior members of the team and manage the clinical governance and development agenda as a service.
• The post-holder will utilise research skills for audit, policy, service development and research within UHB guidance.
• This role will include complex psychological assessments, formulation and treatment on an individual and group basis, multi-disciplinary work, consultancy, liaison, research, teaching, and supervision of others.
• To offer supervision and teaching to doctoral trainee clinical psychologists as a lead supervisor.

Qualifications

• Good Honours degree in Psychology with eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the BPS
• Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology accredited by the HCPC (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the BPS).
• Eligibility for HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist
• Pre- or post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialist areas of psychological practice

Experience

• Post-qualification experience of working as a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist.
• Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan
• Experience of working in both community and in-patient settings across the lifespan
• Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary or multi-agency context
• Pre- or post-qualification experience of working with adults and/or children and young people and their families within a medical setting; problems presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings

Skills

• Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, formulation, intervention and management, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
• Required communication & professional relationship skills at multiple levels
• Required analytical and judgement skills for complex clinical decision making
• Required planning and organisational skills to manage caseloads and professional demands
• Evidence of service development and innovation
• Awareness of, and commitment to, the promotion of equity, diversity and inclusion especially for marginalised groups

Specialist Knowledge

• Doctoral level knowledge of clinical/counselling psychology theory and practice, assessment, psychological therapies and their application in a range of settings
• Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology
• Evidence of pre- and post-qualification continuing professional development as recommended by the HCPC and BPS
• Well developed specialist knowledge of psychological models and therapies related to the needs of people with medical conditions across the lifespan.
• Knowledge of the theory and practice of clinical/counselling psychology in relation to medical problems and working in a medical setting

£50,129 to £65,723 per annum (Band 7/8a, dependent on experience)
