General Summary

Qualcomm invents breakthrough technologies that transform how the world computes, connects, and communicates. Today, our inventions are the foundation for life-changing products, experiences, and industries.

Based in either our Cambridge or Bristol office, this role offers a Senior position within the Digital team to define and deliver next‑generation radio designs. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of digital modem design, WLAN or Bluetooth technologies, with experience working closely with Systems and Analog teams to integrate signal‑processing and analogue IP blocks. This role demands strong technical judgement, leadership qualities, and a commitment to excellence.

Qualcomm’s Voice and Music Business Unit is a leading player in wireless earbud, headsets, and smart speaker markets. Together we deliver hardware, software and applications that bring together the very latest wireless and audio technologies to create ground‑breaking products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own digital micro‑architecture and RTL delivery to create next‑generation low‑power radio designs, working closely with analogue and digital‑signal‑processing teams to meet performance, power and area requirements.
  • Define and review high‑speed logic, operating modes and low‑power behaviours, ensuring alignment with overall system intent.
  • Drive technical solutions across multiple design phases, from concept review through to implementation.
  • Provide technical leadership for the IP delivery, working with design, verification, and programme teams to ensure quality and schedule alignment.
  • Support lab bring‑up and evaluation of chip samples.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, working across disciplines to clarify requirements, evaluate trade‑offs and create technically sound solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, contributing to a collaborative culture.

Required Competencies

  • Experience of Bluetooth or WLAN protocols, modem design, digital‑signal processing techniques.
  • Experience working at a high level with cross‑functional teams.
  • Deep understanding of digital design principles, with experience in sign‑off for multi‑clock, low‑power designs, including design‑for‑debug and DFT.
  • Strong experience in Verilog/SystemVerilog (essential).
  • Knowledge of digital verification methodologies, with the ability to review, challenge, and guide verification strategies in collaboration with verification teams.
  • Working knowledge of digital signal processing concepts; experience with SystemC design and High‑Level Synthesis flows is desirable.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong organisational skills and effective written and verbal communication.
  • An ownership mindset, able to collaborate effectively and provide technical leadership in cross‑functional environments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field and 6+ years of ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related work experience.
  • Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field and 5+ years of ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related work experience.
  • PhD in Science, Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related work experience.

What We’re Looking For

10+ years of relevant industry experience delivering complex digital designs.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic or Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • References to a particular number of years experience are for indicative purposes only. Applications from candidates with equivalent experience will be considered, provided that the candidate can demonstrate an ability to fulfill the principal duties of the role and possesses the required competencies.

Equal Opportunity

Qualcomm is an equal opportunity employer. If you are an individual with a disability and need an accommodation during the application/hiring process, we are committed to providing an accessible process. Qualcomm will provide reasonable accommodations upon request to support individuals with disabilities in the hiring process.
