Job Summary

We are pleased to invite applications for a Senior Clinical Fellow (SpR equivalent) in trauma & orthopaedic surgery at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be based at either the Royal Free Hospital or Barnet General Hospital, with elective clinics and trauma predominantly at those sites, and elective operating mainly at Chase Farm Hospital.

The post is suitable for a person who wishes to improve their trauma and orthopaedic knowledge and skills, participate in teaching (undergraduate and postgraduate), and develop research interests.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a named consultant educational supervisor, and become part of a department comprising 24 consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeons across the Trust.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will play an active role in the day‑to‑day provision of orthopaedic care to patients and will be expected to maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of orthopaedic surgery. The postholder will undertake elective clinics and one to two whole‑day operating lists per week, as required, operating under consultant supervision.

  • Maintain the highest clinical standards in orthopaedic surgery.
  • Engage in day‑to‑day running of the department and participate actively in departmental and academic responsibilities.
  • Engage fully and proactively in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit.
  • Engage in continuing professional development.
  • Maintain a formal job plan agreed with the Clinical Director, covering all aspects of clinical work, teaching, research, education, and managerial responsibilities.

The role is for six months, renewable by agreement, and includes personal objectives. A clear schedule of commitments will be agreed before commencement.
