Tractor Driver / Workshop Engineer

Location: Essex
Salary: £40,600+ per annum, plus accommodation options.

We are recruiting a skilled, committed Tractor Driver/Workshop Engineer to join a busy arable farming business in Essex. This permanent, full‑time role offers year‑round stable employment combining tractor operations, workshop management and involvement in an automated packing line.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate tractors and machinery for potato planting and harvesting (seasonal focus: mid‑May to October)
  • Support irrigation and grading operations as required
  • Oversee and manage the farm workshop, ensuring machinery is well maintained
  • Carry out servicing, repairs, and fault finding, including modern electronic systems
  • Maintain accurate service and maintenance records
  • Assist in the running and maintenance of the automated packing line
  • Ensure machinery is prepared, operational, and efficient throughout the year

The Candidate

  • Proven experience in tractor driving and arable farming
  • Strong mechanical and engineering skills
  • Ability to manage workshop operations and maintain farm machinery
  • Organised, proactive, and methodical approach to work
  • Reliable with a strong work ethic
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

The Package

  • £17.00 per hour (£40,600+ per annum)
  • Average 46‑hour working week (additional paid hours available)
  • Accommodation options: Free 1‑bed (single occupancy) or 3‑bed family house at approx. £250 per month (heavily subsidised)

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or equivalent qualification
  • Legal right to work in the UK or a valid visa permitting employment
