Principal Electrical Design Engineer

Take ownership of complex electrical systems and shape solutions across major defence programmes. Develop your skills while contributing to high-availability systems.

Must-have eligibility

  • British citizenship
  • Proven experience in electrical design engineering including knowledge of PLC hardware, analogue loops, digital inputs/outputs.
  • Line management experience, supporting a team.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience in electrical systems.

Rewards

£56,000 to £70,000 with career development, training and mentoring

What you will be doing

  • Lead design and development of electrical panels, enclosures and cabinet layouts
  • Produce and maintain schematics, technical documentation and Bills of Materials
  • Resolve electrical issues across design, manufacture, integration and qualification stages
  • Apply electrical standards and ensure compliance with Defence Standards

Your experience

  • Experience in electrical design engineering role, with some line management experience, supporting a team.
  • Experience of PLCs e.g. Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi, an understanding of the PLC hardware, analogue loops, digital inputs and outputs.
  • Knowledge of maritime or defence platforms desirable, although other safety-critical sectors will be considered (e.g. Oil & Gas, Aerospace, Airports).
  • Familiarity with CAD tools for electrical design.
  • Ability to work effectively in complex, fast-moving environments.

Location and pattern

New Malden, hybrid, occasional travel approximately 10%
