Role Purpose
Lead the design, development, and ownership of low-voltage electrical systems across our EV and ICE vehicle programmes. This is a technical leadership role in a small engineering team – you'll own the electrical domain end-to-end, from system architecture through to oversight of prototype and test activities. As the company grows, the intention is for this role to build and lead an electrical engineering team beneath it.
What the role covers
- Vehicle electrical system architecture and design
- Harness design – routing, connector selection, terminal sizing, wire specification, harness schedules
- Schematic capture and circuit design
- PCB design for custom control and interface boards (schematic through to layout)
- Component selection and supplier technical relationships
- Hands-on prototyping and vehicle-level testing and fault diagnosis
- Electrical design documentation – schematics, harness drawings, test records, design rationale
Must-have
- Demonstrable experience in automotive or vehicle electrical system design
- Strong electrical engineering fundamentals: circuit analysis, power distribution, grounding strategy, protection and fusing, signal integrity basics
- Harness design experience including connector and terminal selection, wire sizing, routing for a real vehicle environment
- PCB design capability – at minimum schematic capture and layout for low-complexity boards
- Hands-on: comfortable prototyping, testing, and modifying electrical systems on a vehicle
- Self-managing and pragmatic – experienced in making or escalating difficult trade-off decisions when timings, budgets, or requirements are in tension
- Willing to own the electrical domain: set standards, maintain documentation, define best practice, and hold the line on quality
- Comfortable working across disciplines with mechanical and software engineers who will rely on your electrical judgment
- Clear communicator – able to present design decisions, raise risks early, and contribute to structured engineering reviews
Nice-to-have
- Experience with Arcadia
- Working knowledge of HV electrical systems in EVs – battery pack integration, HV distribution, contactors, pre-charge, isolation monitoring
- Understanding of vehicle communication networks (CAN bus, LIN) – you will interface with these but will not own the protocol-level software
- EMC/EMI awareness – noise sources, shielding, grounding for electromagnetic compatibility
- Exposure to functional safety concepts (ISO 26262) as they apply to electrical architecture
- Experience in low-to-medium volume or prototype vehicle programmes, where robust individual ownership of design quality is essential
- Experience mentoring or managing junior engineers

- One day per week remote working offered, subject to programme needs
