Head of Structural Engineering – Offshore Structures – BRAND NEW ROLE FOR OUR CLIENT
Location: Scotland / England (flexible/hybrid)
This is a senior leadership role responsible for providing technical direction, strategic oversight and capability development for structural engineering within a growing, totally unique, design and contract led offshore engineering environment.
The position is central to building and leading a high-performing structural engineering function, supporting major offshore renewable energy and general infrastructure projects across their full lifecycle. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering innovative, optimised and commercially viable engineering solutions to clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Delivery:
- Lead the structural engineering discipline across offshore structures projects, including:
- Fixed and floating offshore wind foundations
- Offshore substations and topsides
- Subsea and marine infrastructure
- Provide technical oversight across concept, pre-FEED, FEED and detailed design stages
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, compliant and optimised structural designs in line with industry standards (DNV, ISO, API, NORSOK)
- Champion constructability, safety in design, and lifecycle optimisation
- Act as technical authority for complex structural challenges and design decisions
Strategy, Growth & Capability Development:
- Define and execute the structural engineering strategy aligned with business growth objectives
- Build, lead and develop a high-performing structural engineering team
- Identify and drive innovation in design approaches, digital tools and methodologies
- Support recruitment and capability expansion in line with projected market demand
Project & Commercial Contribution:
- Support and lead tenders, proposals and client engagements, providing structural expertise
- Contribute to early-stage project definition, helping to shape scope, cost and risk
- Work closely with clients, developers and supply chain partners to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions
- Ensure structural input supports commercially viable and optimised project outcomes
Collaboration & Integration:
- Work collaboratively across disciplines (geotechnical, subsea, installation, environmental and advisory teams)
- Integrate structural engineering into a multi-disciplinary delivery model
External Representation:
- Act as a senior representative in client and industry forums
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and industry presence
- Contribute to thought leadership within offshore structures and renewables engineering
Experience (essential):
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent
- Extensive experience in offshore structural engineering, particularly in offshore wind
- Strong track record across design phases (concept through detailed design)
- Demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams and technical delivery
- Deep understanding of offshore structures, including fixed and floating systems
- Strong commercial awareness and experience supporting bids and client engagement
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable
- Experience working on global offshore renewables projects
- Knowledge of construction and installation methodologies
- Experience integrating structural design with geotechnical and installation considerations
- Interest in innovation, digital engineering and optimisation techniques
