Due to continued growth and increasing demand for bespoke machinery, we’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering team.
This is a hands-on role focused on the design and development of special-purpose machinery, working closely with internal teams from concept through to build and delivery.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing new machines, retrofits, and upgrades
- Creating 3D models and assemblies using SolidWorks
- Producing sales layout drawings (SolidWorks / AutoCAD)
- Generating Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Creating 2D drawings (assembly, part, fabrication)
- Developing pneumatic schematics
- Producing machine manuals and technical documentation
- Supporting the shop floor during machine builds
- Liaising with design and engineering teams to optimise designs
- Identifying and implementing product improvements
- Completing documentation including test plans and validation reports
- Resolving design and build issues with internal stakeholders
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Mechanical engineering qualification (BTEC / HNC or similar)
- Strong background in mechanical design of machinery
- Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD
- Ability to produce BOMs, drawings, and technical documentation
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
- Team player with good communication skills
Desirable:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years’ experience in machinery design
- Experience with AutoCAD (layout drawings)
- Knowledge of pneumatic systems
- Experience building or commissioning machinery
- Exposure to validation and production line processes
- Chartered or working towards
