We’re supporting a renewable energy business as it scales, looking to hire a Financial Controller to strengthen its finance function and support the next phase of growth. This is a hands‑on role with broad exposure across the business, combining core financial control with commercial insight and process improvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in line with UK GAAP/IFRS
  • Lead the month‑end close process, including journals, accruals, reconciliations, consolidations, and variance analysis
  • Oversee accounting for revenue streams and cost structures across the business
  • Maintain strong balance sheet control and ensure the business is audit‑ready
  • Act as the main point of contact for external auditors and support the year‑end audit process

Management reporting & performance

  • Produce high‑quality management accounts and provide clear insight into business performance
  • Support senior leadership with meaningful analysis, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities
  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting process, including scenario planning linked to energy pricing and asset performance
  • Develop and track KPIs across operational and commercial areas
  • Monitor cost drivers, profitability, and cash flow across the business

Process improvement & systems

  • Identify and implement improvements to financial processes, controls, and reporting workflows
  • Support automation initiatives to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Contribute to system enhancements, including ERP and reporting tools

Team leadership

  • Manage and develop a small finance team (1‑2 people), providing day‑to‑day oversight and support
  • Review team outputs to ensure accuracy, consistency, and high standards
  • Coach and mentor team members, supporting their ongoing development

Skills & experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • Strong experience across both financial and management accounting
  • Experience within the energy sector or a similar asset‑based environment
  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large datasets
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage non‑finance stakeholders
