About the job

Cardiff Flying Start Groups deliver informal drop‑in sessions and engaging parenting programmes in community venues across the city. Together with a Senior Parent Group Facilitator the successful candidate will help plan, provide and evaluate effective programmes of play and parent support interventions, particularly for families with children under four years of age. The role requires creating welcoming and inclusive environments that are sensitive to the needs of both adults and children using the service, fostering a safe place for parents and children to play and interact, supporting wellbeing and enhancing positive parenting skills. The post also involves leading on quality creche provision that supports families to access Flying Start Parent Group support.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver and evaluate play and parent support interventions in group settings.
  • Create and maintain welcoming and inclusive environments for adults and children.
  • Foster safe play interactions to support parents and children’s wellbeing.
  • Lead quality creche provision to assist families accessing FSS Parent Group support.
  • Respond to disclosures about vulnerable children and adults, child protection and domestic abuse, following protocols with the Senior facilitator.
  • Use a clean driving licence and vehicle to travel across all areas of the city.

What we are looking for from you

A L3 qualification in Children’s Care, Learning, Play and Development is essential. A clean driving licence and vehicle access are also required for city travel.

You should have a genuine interest in working with children under four and their families, demonstrated through a non‑judgemental approach and a tone of kindness, empathy and understanding.

Comprehensive knowledge of developmental needs of children and the ability to convey this information to parents in a sensitive manner.

Capability to problem‑solve and respond appropriately to disclosures concerning vulnerable children and adults, and to seek support and advice from the Senior facilitator where necessary.

Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies, and experience responding to child protection and domestic abuse protocols.

Speaking other languages, particularly Welsh, is an advantage.
