This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a well-established, family-owned engineering business based in Leeds. The organisation is a leading manufacturer and supplier of electrical power distribution equipment, recognised for delivering innovative, energy-efficient solutions to support the global drive for reduced energy wastage.

The Role

  • Mentor and support the development of the mechanical engineering team.
  • Manage the day-to-day workload of the Mechanical Department alongside the Lead Mechanical Engineer.
  • Oversee design processes, including drawings and bills of materials (BOM).
  • Ensure all designs comply with BS/IEC standards and meet customer specifications.
  • Select and define component parts to meet electrical and mechanical design requirements.
  • Prepare working designs for projects, including prototype builds and testing.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external customers on transformer design projects.
  • Lead research and development activities for new products and the continuous improvement of existing ones.
  • Provide technical guidance during contract start-up and prepare written technical specifications.
  • Produce transformer designs in line with client requirements.
  • Assist with resource allocation and departmental planning.
  • Develop and maintain component libraries.
  • Deliver job-specific and workflow process training.

Skills, Knowledge And Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in mechanical engineering and transformer design.
  • Strong understanding of BS/IEC standards and mechanical design principles.
  • Proficiency in 2D & 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks).
  • Experience in BOM creation and component selection.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with experience mentoring others.
