Technical Writer – Checkout.com
Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Tech Writing, you’ll work with our growing team of technical writers on a rich variety of projects across technical documentation, API reference, and support site. You’ll liaise with designers, marketers, and stakeholders from Design, Product, User Research, and Engineering. You’ll have experience writing technical product content and API or SDK references, adhering to a consistent style. You’ll be a self‑driven, confident writer who manages stakeholders, advocates for users, and understands how good written content facilitates successful product integrations. Your strong understanding of Git and the Docs‑as‑Code approach, along with knowledge of the OpenAPI (OAS) specification, will enable you to contribute immediately.

What We’d Like to See
- Experience in online payments and/or in a Software‑as‑a‑Service (SaaS) business.
- A strong understanding of Git and the Docs‑as‑Code approach, and knowledge of the OpenAPI (OAS) specification.
- Experience documenting complex APIs.
- Ability to read code in at least one programming language.
- Familiarity with JSON, YAML, and Markdown.
- Experience leveraging content analytics and user research.
- You’re open and curious about AI and how it can be used to optimize processes and improve content.
First 6 Months
Month 1 – You’ll become familiar with the technical documentation and support site repository structures and fix minor content issues. You’ll meet product teams and build a foundational understanding of Checkout’s products and services.
Month 2 – You’ll navigate the API reference repository, comfortably make changes, and take on more complex projects from the team’s board.
Months 3 and 4 – You’ll independently research and document new feature releases, review contributions from other writers, and provide meaningful feedback.
Month 5 – You’ll be a proficient writer, leveraging tools and processes autonomously in your product area and confidently advocating for users.
Month 6 – You’ll be fully comfortable in your product area, understand users, and use research and data to inform documentation and continuous improvement.
