Job Description
As a Structural Engineer you will join the Manchester / Warrington / Derby team to support our activities within the Nuclear sector.
This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the most complex reinforced concrete and steel structures in the nuclear industry, collaborating within a multi‑disciplinary and multi‑cultural environment to deliver safe, resilient, and high‑quality engineering solutions for our clients.
- Location: Manchester, Warrington or Derby (any site)
- On Site: 2 days per week
- Clearance: BPSS
- Experience Level: 3‑10 years of experience
Key Responsibilities
- Design and analyse reinforced concrete and steel structures for nuclear facilities and associated infrastructure.
- Perform structural calculations and modelling to ensure compliance with relevant design codes and safety requirements.
- Evaluate structural performance under a range of loading conditions including seismic, dynamic, environmental loads and construction phases.
- Contribute to verification and validation activities by reviewing analysis, inspection and testing evidence to confirm compliance with structural and system requirements.
- Develop and review technical documentation, engineering reports and design deliverables.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams including mechanical, systems and safety engineers.
- Support design changes and modifications by assessing structural impacts and recommending appropriate engineering solutions.
- Provide technical support during project delivery phases, including coordination with clients, contractors and regulatory stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills in structural engineering.
- Experience with structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete and steel structures.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as Eurocodes, British Standards, ASME, ACI, ASCE or ANSI.
- Experience contributing to verification and validation activities within engineering projects.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills for producing engineering documentation and reports.
- Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
- Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance (BPSS as a minimum).
Desirable Skills
- Experience within the nuclear industry, or other highly regulated sectors such as power generation, oil & gas, or major infrastructure.
- Knowledge of nuclear regulatory frameworks or safety standards such as ONR safety principles.
- Experience working on large‑scale infrastructure or safety‑critical engineering projects.
