Location

Site-based role with travel to customer sites across the UK and potentially internationally as required.

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join a growing industrial engineering business delivering complex machinery and automation projects. This role is ideal for a strong electrically biased engineer with proven experience in PLC fault finding, commissioning and industrial automation systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, commissioning and supporting a wide range of industrial machinery and systems on customer sites. Typical equipment may include conveyors, packaging machinery, automated production lines, process equipment, motors, drives, sensors, safety circuits and PLC-controlled systems. This is a site-based role and does not require regular travel to a central office location.

Key Responsibilities for Commissioning Engineer

  • Carry out installation and commissioning of industrial machinery and automation systems.
  • Ensure all equipment is installed, tested and commissioned to the highest standards.
  • Work closely with customers to ensure systems meet technical and operational requirements.
  • Diagnose and fault‑find on electrical, control and PLC systems.
  • Commission machinery including motors, drives, sensors, control panels and safety circuits.
  • Support commissioning of PLC‑controlled systems, including Siemens, Allen Bradley, Rockwell or similar platforms.
  • Carry out fault finding on industrial communication networks, drives and associated equipment where required.
  • Create commissioning reports, technical documentation and completion records.
  • Manage commissioning activities in line with project schedules and deadlines.
  • Liaise with project management, design, production and service teams.
  • Support customers during testing, handover and post‑installation activities.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications

  • Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics qualification, or equivalent engineering background.
  • Electrical qualifications highly desirable.

Experience

  • Proven experience as a Commissioning Engineer within industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong electrical background with the ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Strong PLC fault-finding experience.
  • Experience with Siemens, Allen Bradley, Rockwell or similar PLC platforms.
  • Knowledge of motors, inverters, drives, sensors, relays, contactors and safety circuits.
  • Experience commissioning industrial machinery, automated systems or process equipment.
  • Understanding of industrial communication networks and automation systems advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
