Role

As a Systems Architect within Akkodis, you’ll direct a team of systems engineers to translate requirements into robust, verified system designs. You’ll guide technical decisions, interface across multidisciplinary teams, and ensure designs meet operational, safety, and quality standards. You will also manage test strategies and coordinate acceptance testing activities in secure environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead conceptual system design: perform operational analyses, simulations, and trade studies to refine and document design options.
  • Develop, review, and execute system-level test strategies and specifications. Perform testing, record or authorize results, log defects, and maintain quality targets.
  • Author and approve outline designs using engineering toolsets; refine and develop concepts to meet requirements.
  • Define system and subsystem requirements; decompose customer needs into technical specifications and interfaces.
  • Conduct performance analyses, simulations, and feasibility studies to shape design decisions.
  • Provide line management and technical oversight to systems engineers: assign tasks, mentor, monitor progress, and prioritize activities.
  • Prepare work package estimates, profiles, and documentation to ensure compliant, cost-effective solutions.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain engineering tools relevant to systems processes; assess and improve tooling.
  • Contribute to process and standards evolution within the systems engineering framework.
  • Stay abreast of technological developments in sonar and underwater systems.
  • Produce quality metrics to measure systems engineering process effectiveness.

Required Experience

  • Proven track record working in systems engineering or architecture roles, ideally within underwater or maritime defence sectors. Evidence of navigating complex, novel technical challenges is essential.
  • Demonstrable experience converting customer requirements into validated architectural solutions.
  • Hands-on exposure to systems engineering lifecycle, including V-model methodologies and toolsets such as DOORS, System Architect, and JIRA.
  • Experience in writing and executing test plans, performing validation & verification, and defect management.
  • Prior responsibility in managing personnel and leading technical teams (planning, coaching, delivery).

Required Skills

  • Proficiency with IT and engineering tools (MS Office, MS Visio, DOORS, SysML tools like System Architect, JIRA, configuration control systems, Chorus2).
  • Strong understanding of engineering safety management, lifecycle documentation, and quality control metrics.
  • Ability to develop architectural models, interface control documents, and test strategies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across multidisciplinary teams.

Required Education

  • HNC / HND / Engineering Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as Systems Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Physics.
  • In progress or attained professional status (e.g., Chartered Engineer) is essential.
