Position Overview

Associate Director – Arboriculture and Forestry, working with Jacobs' UK Landscape and Arboriculture team of over 70 professionals. The role involves developing, implementing, and managing arboriculture advice and surveys across a wide range of project stages and types, contributing to EIA assessments, and supporting both landscape and other discipline teams.

Contract & Location

Contract Type: Permanent, Full‑time. Grade: Associate Director. Location: UK wide.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, develop and support the wider arboricultural team on a national scale.
  • Submit clear arboricultural surveying pricing proposals for various projects.
  • Ensure delivery of comprehensive arboricultural reports, including Arboricultural Impact Assessments and Arboricultural Method Statements within tight timeframes.
  • Contribute to EIA assessments and other relevant documents.
  • Provide technical arboricultural solutions in design and build environments.
  • Collaborate with multiple disciplines within Jacobs and with external consultants.
  • Introduce innovative ideas, materials, research, and learnings to the team.
  • Support landscape, ecology and other discipline teams within Jacobs.
  • Manage arboricultural sub‑contractors as part of the arboricultural offering.

Required Qualifications

  • Chartered Arboriculturist with The Institute of Chartered Foresters or equivalent.
  • In depth understanding of BS 5837:2012, BS 3998:2010 and Knowledge of Streetworks UK: NJUG Volume 4.
  • Understanding of the National Planning Policy Framework (Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, 2014) in relation to trees.
  • Experience managing teams on a national scale within a multi‑disciplinary environment.
  • Familiarity with CAD, digital survey hardware and software, including GIS.
  • High standard of report writing skills and ability to review other team members’ deliverables.
  • Site visits and survey work; a driving licence is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience submitting arboricultural surveying pricing proposals for large‑scale infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in woodland management.
  • Qualifications or experience in ecology.
  • Experience working on large‑scale infrastructure projects.
