Location: Stevenage (Hybrid: 3-4 days office/site,)

Role Overview

A leading building services contractor is seeking an experienced M&E Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of mechanical and electrical packages across major projects ranging from £10m to £20m. The role combines office‑based commercial management with regular site presence to ensure accurate cost control, contract compliance, and strong commercial outcomes.

You’ll join a growing commercial team working on high‑profile schemes, with the autonomy to manage your own workload while contributing to wider project strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial and financial aspects of M&E packages from pre‑construction through to final account.

  • Prepare and manage cost plans, valuations, variations, and monthly commercial reports.

  • Lead subcontract procurement, negotiation, and contract administration.

  • Monitor project performance, identifying risks, opportunities, and cost‑saving measures.

  • Work closely with project managers, design teams, and site teams to ensure accurate forecasting and cost control.

  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company commercial procedures.

  • Support the preparation of applications for payment and manage client‑facing commercial communication.

  • Conduct site visits to verify progress, assess change, and maintain strong commercial oversight.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as an M&E Quantity Surveyor within building services or a main M&E contractor.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, procurement routes, and commercial processes.

  • Track record of managing packages or projects in the £10m-£20m range.

  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative commercial team.

  • Strong analytical and reporting skills with attention to detail.

  • Familiarity with standard forms of contract (NEC, JCT).
