Applications are invited for a MATTU Surgical Research Fellow at the Royal Surrey Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Guildford. The appointment commences in October 2026 for an initial fixed term of 12 months, with the possibility of extension for 12 or 24 months by mutual agreement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop specialist teaching skills within the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit.
  • Undertake research in fields such as health economics, surgical outcomes, enhanced recovery, immune response to surgery, new technology and imaging.
  • Maintain clinical skills as a Specialist Registrar, focusing on gastrointestinal surgery.
  • Participate in on‑call duties: less than one night per week as SpR on‑call with prospective cover (4 nights shared among fellows) and a 1:6 weekend night shift (Friday and Saturday nights) with prospective cover.

Qualifications

  • Current Specialist Registrar in general surgery, with a particular interest in gastrointestinal surgery.
  • Strong academic record and a commitment to pursuing a higher degree (MD or PhD) through the research project.
