Director of Software Engineering
About This Role
We are looking for a Director of Software Engineering to lead a team of 100+ engineers. You’ll be responsible for all technologists within a series of our ‘outcome teams’, driving forward business outcomes. You’ll provide leadership, be an excellent communicator, bridging executive-level progress conversations, deep technical solutions, and strategic roadmap discussions.
What You’ll Do
- Leadership of a team of 100+ technologists (Software Engineers and Architects) operating at scale within a complex regulated environment
- Work with Product and Design teams on the product roadmap for key business capabilities and goals
- Elevate talent and ensure clear development agenda for the team, actively managing performance
- Drive effective delivery with pace and precision across outcome teams
- Liaise with and manage enterprise stakeholders primarily based in the US
- Manage a team of associates and third-party engineers, ensuring effective oversight of relevant third parties
- Seek and share wider organisational context to enable team engagement with customer outcomes
- Stay up to date with regulatory and enterprise process changes
- Maintain broad knowledge of relevant technologies and engineering practices
- Be a key voice in technical design reviews, ensuring consistent engineering practices
- Support career growth and development of the team
What We’re Looking For
- Clear track record of leading large software engineering teams and driving high performance
- Ability to solve complex challenges across people, process and technology, with strong intellectual curiosity and comfort with ambiguity
- Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to provide thoughtful counsel to leaders across the business
- Passion for recruiting and developing great engineering talent
- Ability to drive results quickly individually while establishing clear patterns and practices for engineering teams
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt and communicate compellingly and authentically to any audience
- Awareness of native AWS developments and real-world experience
- Knowledge of the latest cybersecurity trends and their impact on engineering practice
- Ability to work within enterprise policies while tailoring to fit UK regulations
- Comfort in reaching pragmatic outcomes between short-term and long-term business needs
- Knowledge of UK / US regulatory, consumer lending and technology landscapes (preferred)
Where and How You’ll Work
This is a permanent position based in our London offices. We have a hybrid working model that gives you flexibility to work from our offices and from home, with a requirement to be in the London office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
