About the Team
Our Pensions Administration business is growing and we are looking for an experienced Pensions Administration Manager to join our Bristol office. The role is ideal for candidates with a similar Pensions Manager background, extensive experience and knowledge of defined benefit (DB) pension schemes, pension legislation, and managing a portfolio of clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the provision of pensions administration services for the assigned client portfolio.
- Oversee day‑to‑day management of client relationships with trustees and corporate clients, and participate in trustee and client meetings.
- Participate in marketing initiatives, new business activities, pitches and company events, seeking opportunities to generate additional income from the existing portfolio.
- Provide expert advice on pensions queries and consultative matters; keep abreast of technical and legislative developments.
- Manage annual and ad‑hoc projects such as renewals, benefit statements, pension increases, scheme returns, and trustees’ reports and accounts, ensuring they meet customer and legislative requirements.
- Mentor less experienced colleagues.
- Take responsibility for all aspects of admin billing, ensuring all chargeable work is recorded and billed appropriately, and that bills are issued and paid on time.
- Present technical matters at team meetings.
- Lead non‑client activities, conduct internal audits, identify improvements in administration processes, and implement changes to enhance governance and quality.
- Manage total workflow for the team and identify objectives or necessary changes aligned with business needs.
- Contribute positively to regular management meetings, implementing recommendations related to working practices, resourcing, efficiencies, and communication.
- Handle formal staff management responsibilities, including appraisals, objectives, HR issues, performance management, and recruitment activities.
- Forge strong working relationships with other departments and teams (e.g., Pensions Accounts, Payroll, Administration Consulting, Business Support) to provide a comprehensive service to clients.
- Maintain accurate time‑recording for both chargeable and non‑chargeable activities to meet utilisation and recovery targets, and report to senior management by exception.
Essential – Your Profile
- Previous pensions administration experience of defined benefit schemes including leavers, retirements, deaths, transfers, monthly processing, investment, benefit statements, scheme renewal and pension increases.
- Thorough knowledge of pensions legislation framework and the ability to remain informed of changes.
- Experience in supervisory, leadership, and management roles, including performance monitoring, appraisals, recruitment, etc.
- Third‑party pensions administration experience preferred; strong in‑house experience also considered.
- Presentation experience desirable for client pitches and trustee meetings.
- Numerical aptitude, evidenced by work experience or academic achievements.
- Project management experience required for pension administration project‑based work.
- IT proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
