Job Summary
Senior Project Managers play a key role within Health Innovation West Midlands (HIWM), leading the delivery of high‑impact programmes that drive innovation and improvement across health and care systems. Working in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment, the holder will manage projects spanning real‑world evaluation, innovation adoption, funding opportunities and stakeholder engagement.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
You will lead and manage a range of projects, ensuring delivery to time, budget and quality standards. This includes developing and implementing project plans, monitoring progress, managing risks and reporting on outcomes. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to facilitate engagement, support the adoption and spread of innovations, and ensure successful delivery across programmes.
The role also involves assessing business development opportunities, contributing to funding bids and income generation, and leading the analysis and interpretation of complex data to evaluate impact. You will support strategic planning and help shape new programmes aligned to organisational priorities.
Key skills include strong leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to build effective relationships across diverse groups. You should be confident managing multiple priorities, working independently, and applying project management, quality improvement and analytical approaches to deliver results. A proactive mindset, strong organisational skills and a commitment to inclusive, patient‑centred working are essential.
Essential Qualifications
- Relevant degree or equivalent additional training plus postgraduate level experience in a related arena.
- Post‑graduation project management qualification or proven equivalent practical experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable Qualifications
- Recognised qualification in patient safety, quality improvement, change management, benefits realisation, or business advice.
Essential Experience
- Significant experience of managing projects from set‑up through to planning, process mapping, data analysis and implementation of change initiatives in healthcare settings.
- Experience of innovation and improvement interventions being implemented into health and care settings.
- Evidence of using a variety of evidence‑based quality improvement and service redesign approaches with health and care settings.
- Experience in organising and managing meetings involving different sectors, agencies and professions.
- Evidence of patient/user involvement initiatives throughout programme or project delivery.
- Experience of presenting reports, managing feedback and questions at senior management level.
- Experience of adoption and spread within and across organisations.
- Experience of data analytics.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with industry and/or higher education institutions.
- Evidence of working collaboratively and influencing people from a wide range of professional backgrounds.
- Operational and/or clinical experience within a health or care setting.
