The Role:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail‑oriented Powertrain Regulation Lead Engineer to ensure compliance of propulsion systems with global and regional regulatory requirements. The role demands a strong understanding of powertrain‑related regulations, the ability to decompose regulatory texts into actionable engineering requirements, and effective stakeholder management across multiple engineering functions.

Area of Responsibility

1. Regulatory Governance & Compliance

  • Maintain a high‑level understanding of global powertrain regulations, including emissions, OBD, electrified propulsion requirements, certification standards, and emerging regulatory trends.
  • Interpret and decompose regulatory texts into clear, auditable engineering requirements suitable for system teams, attribute owners, and programme delivery.
  • Track regulatory changes and assess implications for ongoing and future propulsion systems.

2. Requirements Decomposition & Traceability

  • Translate regulations into structured requirements using company tools (e.g., TRM, XRAY).
  • Support the creation and maintenance of test cases and evidence packs aligned with certification needs.

3. Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the focal point between Regulations, Powertrain Engineering, Programme Teams, Testing, and Certification.
  • Drive discussions, resolve queries, and ensure all stakeholders understand obligations and timelines.
  • Provide clear summaries, risks, and status updates to leadership and technical communities.

4. Technical Leadership & Delivery Support

  • Guide engineering teams to ensure design and validation align with regulatory requirements.
  • Support issue resolution, audits, documentation reviews, and compliance assessments.
  • Prepare and present regulatory compliance status during programme gateway reviews.

5. Tools & Process Excellence

  • Use and support key digital tools including: TRM – Requirements & regulatory tracking, XRAY – Test case management, Compliance Test Cases / Evidence Packs.

Knowledge / Experience

  • Strong understanding of powertrain regulations, including emissions, OBD, electrified powertrain, and global certification frameworks.
  • Proven ability to interpret and decompose regulations into engineering requirements and structured technical actions.
  • Experience with requirements management and test case creation using tools such as TRM and XRAY.
  • Effective stakeholder management with the ability to communicate regulatory requirements clearly across engineering and programme teams.
  • Strong organisational and documentation skills, with attention to detail and traceability.
  • Engineering degree in Automotive, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with global regulatory frameworks (EU, US EPA/CARB, China, India, etc.).
  • Knowledge of powertrain system design, test, calibration, or attribute development.
  • Understanding of homologation, certification processes, and vehicle-level compliance.
  • Experience in requirements management, verification/validation workflows, or system engineering methods.
  • AI Capabilities (Optional / Enhancing): Familiarity with AI‑based tools for requirements analysis, test optimisation, or document automation.
