Overview

As Senior underwriter in the SCOR Business Solutions EMEA construction team, you are responsible and accountable for properly underwriting and managing key accounts and projects in the region coming from London brokers or other sources in Continental Europe, the Middle East and Africa. You will add your technical expertise in Construction & Engineering Insurance and your experience of the London market to the highly experienced Scor Business Solutions Construction practice located in Paris and London to achieve Scor Business Solutions’ objectives in the construction segment.

Under the direct authority

You will be involved in the following activities under the direct authority of the EMEA construction manager and the strong support of the Global Head of Construction, in coordination with commercial managers, risk engineers and other lines of business.

Underwriting activities

  • Produce new business from the EMEA region in Contractors All Risks (CAR) and EAR (Erection All Risks) policies on a Single Project or Annual basis, insurance and reinsurance.
  • Underwrite, build and maintain a profitable portfolio in accordance with the SBS underwriting guidelines, Roadmaps and specific ad‑hoc guidance.
  • Underwrite in a technical manner to assess risks, determine their insurability and apply appropriate terms and conditions.
  • Contribute to the development and quality of the portfolio in accordance with the underwriting policy and the direction selected by the Global Line of business.
  • Give added value to the Global Construction teams on specific technical and/or language skills.
  • Correctly service the in‑force portfolio with particular attention to profitability.
  • Responsibly manage data recorded in our information systems to give an accurate representation of the risks subscribed and enable portfolio analysis.
  • Populate and maintain the Underwriting platform and supervise the administration of the OMEGA back‑office tool (in liaison with the Technical Assistants) for new or existing accounts.
  • Regularly interact with the claims team to inform the underwriting process.

Contract Management

  • Comply with internal risk management and compliance, ensure data quality and reporting to all IT systems: Forewriter, Omega, UP, Salesforce.
  • Ensure proper management of contracts (endorsements, renewals, claims…) and accurate data entry into the IT system.
  • Maintain compliance, profitability and sustainability as key decision‑making drivers.

Segment and Client Management

  • Contribute to commercial activity for the region, focusing on London brokers and opening to Continental Europe & Middle East opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and intermediaries (brokers, ceding companies) with a focus on lead placements and long‑term clients.
  • Visit clients and project sites regularly (approx. 10–20 days of business travel per year).
  • Promote SCOR to customers using communication and marketing products (seminars, forums, materials, etc.).
  • Identify new business targets to develop a profitable profile for Scor Business Solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with the SBS network to share business objectives and deliver the best responses to producers and the division.
  • Adopt a solution‑oriented, customer‑centric view, building on cross‑selling with other lines of business or P&C treaty for facultative services.

Global Construction Team

  • Participate in broader Global construction initiatives and projects.

Required Experience & Competencies

Experience

  • Established underwriter with several years of direct construction underwriting experience in the London market or elsewhere.
  • Proven underwriting skills including technical expertise and wording negotiation.
  • Good market relationships.
  • Experience writing international business.
  • Reinsurance and Insurance knowledge.
  • Industry background in construction (civil, mechanical engineering or construction contract management).

Competencies

  • Sound technical knowledge of underwriting subjects and a broader understanding of related legal, risk‑management, social and economic topics.
  • Ability to negotiate face‑to‑face with brokers.
  • Leadership and business‑development skills.
  • Ability to promote the underwriting policy.
