Job Title: Shift Engineering Manager – Site
Location: Marston’s Brewery – Burton on Trent
Job Length: Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week: 8 hour shifts – 6am – 2pm / 2pm – 10pm Mon – Fri)

We are recruiting a Shift Engineering Manager – Site to oversee safe and hygienic engineering activities across the Burton site, with special focus on the brewery and packaging departments.
Role Responsibilities
- Organise all routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance within the site.
- Manage the engineering function including welfare and facilities concerns.
- Identify and control spare parts, replacement parts, and consumables.
- Supervise all relevant maintenance contractors.
- Implement all group maintenance and TPM standards.
- Train operational teams in Autonomous Maintenance and TPM related tasks.
People Leadership, Development & Management
- Ensure personal safety of engineering and operational teams.
- Promote a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and LOTO policies.
- Recruit, lead, motivate, and develop a flexible and agile multi‑disciplined engineering team.
- Effectively manage performance of direct reports, focusing on behavioural change.
- Deploy a servant‑leadership approach focussed on coaching.
- Support and deputise for the Site Engineering Manager when required.
- Provide emergency support as necessary following emergency response procedures.
- Generate clear job descriptions for engineering teams and input into operator roles carrying out autonomous maintenance.
Budgeting & Control
- Prepare and manage the annual engineering budget.
- Review engineering spend and spare parts inventory levels routinely.
- Ensure the brewery CMMS system is used correctly and meets agreed standards.
- Critically review maintenance practices and seek improvement opportunities.
- Manage material and non‑material waste analysis and loss reduction with cross‑functional teams.
- Encourage standardised problem‑solving methodologies (Gemba Kaizen, RCA, Six Sigma) to resolve problems.
Planning & Coordination
- Prioritise maintenance plans based on criticality.
- Allocate daily maintenance work orders and plans to teams.
- Supervise maintenance work across the site, including operational teams and 3rd party contractors.
- Organise packaging and brewery workshops and spare parts stores.
- Assign engineering staff to autonomous maintenance tasks.
- Allocate sufficient resources to key initiatives.
- Ensure engineering repairs meet standards and timelines.
- Coordinate all engineering activity during plant shutdowns, focusing on safety and resource management.
Performance
- Deliver agreed KPIs in autonomous/preventive maintenance via effective deployment of teams.
- Utilise MTBF / MTTR for maintenance approaches and criticality view.
- Apply RCM and TPM methodologies and promote their use in standard work.
- Set and communicate clear targets for engineering teams.
- Review performance through a structured PMS system.
- Maintain discipline for meeting attendance and manage meeting actions with logs.
- Ensure compliance with legislative standards and approved codes of practice.
- Lead and manage minor capital projects.
Experience and Key Attributes
- Significant experience managing maintenance KPIs and controlling people, cost, quality, and service.
- In‑depth knowledge of regulatory requirements for engineering maintenance.
- Commitment to Lean TPM and role modelling continuous improvement.
- Advanced proficiency in: Results focus, customer focus, motivation and integrity, structured problem‑solving, cross‑team collaboration, interpersonal communication, empowerment, change management, active listening, commitment, ownership, fast decision‑making.
