Job Purpose
The Youth Offending Team Officer will work as part of the Youth Offending Team (YOT) to prevent offending and reoffending by children and young people. The role involves assessing risks and needs, delivering targeted interventions, and working collaboratively with families, partner agencies, and the wider community to support positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities of Youth Offending Team Officer
- Manage a caseload of children and young people subject to youth justice interventions, including court orders and out-of-court disposals.
- Undertake comprehensive assessments of risk, need, and vulnerability using relevant frameworks.
- Develop, implement, and review intervention plans tailored to individual needs.
- Deliver offence-focused work to address behaviour and reduce reoffending.
- Engage effectively with young people and their families to promote compliance and positive change.
- Work in partnership with agencies such as education, police, social care, and health services.
- Prepare high-quality reports for court, panels, and other statutory meetings.
- Attend court as required and provide professional recommendations.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with statutory orders, taking appropriate enforcement action when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in line with organisational and legal standards.
- Contribute to safeguarding and public protection by identifying and responding to risks appropriately.
Working hours of Youth Offending Team Officer: 36 hours per week, 2 days in office and 3 days remote.
Requirements
- Enhanced DBS check (required).
- Full UK driving licence (required).
- Experience of working with children, young people, or vulnerable groups, ideally within a youth justice, social care, or related setting.
- Understanding of factors contributing to youth offending and effective intervention strategies.
- Ability to assess risk and manage challenging behaviour.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage resistant or hard-to-reach individuals.
- Experience preparing court reports or working within a statutory setting.
