Are you passionate about precision, innovation, and delivering first-class steel and metalwork solutions across complex projects? We're representing a highly regarded, forward-thinking fabrication business with an outstanding reputation across structural steel and architectural metalwork packages on major infrastructure and commercial developments.

This business forms part of a major international contractor group, offering the backing, stability, and progression opportunities of a global organisation, combined with the agility and specialist expertise of a dedicated steel and metalwork division.

With a strong pipeline of high-profile work, they are now seeking an QS/Estimator to lead and shape their estimating function, with a strong commercial and QS influence.

This is a genuine opportunity to build the division in your own image, with autonomy, ownership, and board-level visibility.

The Role

  • Lead and develop the estimating division, implementing robust processes, strategy, and commercial controls.
  • Take full ownership of estimating activity across structural steel and architectural metalwork packages, from enquiry through to final submission.
  • Prepare and review detailed cost estimates for a wide range of projects including primary steelwork, secondary steel, staircases, balustrades, handrails, and bespoke metalwork solutions.
  • Work closely with Tier 1 main contractors on bids, tenders, and negotiated projects.
  • Provide commercial leadership across pre-construction, ensuring strong cost planning, value engineering, and risk mitigation.
  • Oversee pricing strategy, supply chain engagement, and margin control across both steel and metalwork scopes.
  • Mentor and support junior estimators and commercial team members.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on pipeline, forecasting, and wider business strategy.
  • Provide QS-level commercial input including cost management, contract awareness, variations, and financial risk assessment.

About You

  • Proven leadership experience in estimating within structural steel and/or architectural metalwork.
  • Strong experience pricing both heavy structural steelwork and detailed metalwork packages.
  • Background in commercial management and/or Quantity Surveying is highly desirable.
  • Confident dealing with Tier 1 contractors and familiar with their commercial processes.
  • Strong understanding of contracts, cost control, variations, and risk analysis.
  • Commercially astute with the ability to protect margin while remaining competitive.
  • Ambitious, driven, and capable of building and shaping a high-performing division.

What's on Offer

  • The opportunity to lead and own the estimating & commercial function.
  • Backing of a global contractor, offering long-term career stability and progression opportunities.
  • Potential for future career development within a wider international group.
  • Long-term security with a strong and growing project pipeline.
  • Hybrid flexibility for the right candidate.
