The Audiologist will undertake all routine audiological and rehabilitation procedures, including direct referrals for hearing aids and open access from GPs. Key Responsibilities

  • Take a medical case history to exclude pathologies requiring a medical opinion and determine the appropriate audiometric tests.
  • Safely and accurately undertake suitable test regimes for school‑age children and adults with hearing disorders, including direct referrals from GPs.
  • Analyse and interpret test results.
  • Provide accurate reports and recommendations for clinicians and GPs, informing further patient management.
  • Provide rehabilitation for adults with hearing disorders, including care planning and specialist advice for complex cases.
  • Use medical, physical, social and audiological assessment information to identify the appropriate ear mould.
  • Take ear impressions, adjust or alter ear moulds when required.
  • Select appropriate hearing aids and prescription formulae based on needs, assessment and diagnostic test results.
  • Accurately fit hearing aids using real‑ear measurements.
  • Instruct adult patients and significant others on hearing‑aid usage, providing relevant information.
  • Counsel patients and significant others regarding hearing deficits to ensure maximum benefit from devices and available services such as hearing therapy, social services, environmental aids and accessories.
  • Carry out first‑line management of hearing‑aid repair and maintenance.
  • Ensure correct operation and use of all audiological equipment and facilities, including daily calibration, safety checks and decontamination.
  • Utilise an integrated testing/patient management system, accurately inputting clinical data (e.g., Auditbase patient journal).
  • Perform ward visits and hearing‑aid repairs for inpatients as required.
  • Order stock and supplies as required.
  • Share responsibility for dispatch of ear moulds to the manufacturer.
