Ideally, we are looking for two substantive respiratory consultants, one with an interest in lung cancer and pleural disease and the other in TB/complex lung infections but would support development of any sub‑specialist interests/research. We have a large Integrated Respiratory team and, following a successful bid of £1.2 million, have expanded our respiratory virtual ward and work very closely with our extensive, experienced, award‑winning Acute Integrated Respiratory (AIR) nursing team. We are located in an area of high TB incidence outside London, run a busy NHS‑EHS funded latent TB new entrant screening programme, and were one of the initial pilot sites for national lung cancer screening. The roles are based at Wexham Park Hospital, with respiratory clinics largely held at King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor. The department is supportive and happy to help new CCT holders gain skills and experience for future sub‑specialist interests, particularly research. Ideally applicants would be able to start in September 2026, but earlier and later dates will be considered.

There is a dedicated 16‑bed medical high‑dependency/RSU and NIV unit, a general ICU run as a closed unit, and a medical day‑unit for outpatient pleural procedures, line insertion, day‑case biopsies, IV antibiotics and support for patients with long‑term chest drains. Specialist nurses (cancer, TB, non‑invasive ventilation, sleep, airways disease and ILD) attend specialist outpatient clinics, review in‑patients, and assist with discharge planning. Community respiratory care teams cover Windsor, Maidenhead and Berkshire. Approximately 200 bronchoscopies and 200 endobronchial ultrasound procedures are carried out per year. A navigational bronchoscopy service run with interventional radiologists, thoracic ultrasound and sub‑regional support for tunnelled chest drain placement are also provided. An ambulatory care pathway for pleural effusion management, and 2–3 pleural disease clinics a week, support this.
The lung cancer MDT includes chest physicians, a radiology team, an oncologist based at Mount Vernon Hospital (who run clinics and oversee chemotherapy at Wexham Park), and a thoracic surgical team based at Harefield and The Royal Brompton Hospital.
