Senior /Principal Utilities Engineer (Development)
Our Development team specialises in providing sustainable development infrastructure solutions from planning, through to full implementation. We provide advice to private and public sector clients on planning and design issues relating to Highways, Public Realm, Sewerage, SUDS, Building Drainage, Earthworks, Flood Protection and Utilities Coordination/Diversion for a wide range of projects and clients, which typically include Residential, Sports/ Leisure, Industrial/ Commercial, Educational and Healthcare Developments in the UK. The team also works closely with other WSP disciplines on high profile major multi-disciplinary projects. All staff are encouraged and assisted to progress their training towards Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the ICE, or equivalent Engineering organisations; and staff will benefit from internal and external training opportunities provided. The management of utilities risk is of great importance to our Clients. Issues such as capacity shortages, encroachment on ageing assets and commercial opportunities are increasingly requiring a particular skill set to manage.
Responsibilities
- Working out of the WSP Manchester office, with easy access to Oxford Road and Deansgate stations.
- Working within multidisciplinary teams to maintain existing and developing new client relationships.
- Working closely with a diverse range Clients to help deliver diverse, complex and interesting schemes.
- Successfully delivering schemes on budget.
- Ensuring a high standard of work and information is provided to clients.
- Providing an experienced senior point of contact for clients on key projects.
- Mentoring team members.
- Quality service and professional reputation.
- Commercially aware and efficient at problem solving.
Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer or open/working towards Chartered Engineer status.
- Civil Engineering Degree, or similar equivalent qualification
- Experience delivering utility connections, diversions and utility infrastructure strategies for small, medium and large schemes in the UK.
- Understanding of requirements of Electricity, Gas, Water, and Telecommunications networks owners
- Experience of Multi-utility / iDNO (independent Distribution Network Operators)/ ICP (Independent Connection Provider) offerings would be beneficial.
- Ability to develop utility demand calculations based on the needs of a Development
- Project experience of large multi-disciplinary infrastructure schemes.
- Proven ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and effectively organise your time between them
- Working knowledge of BIM standards and protocols
- Excellent communication skills are important to engage effectively with co-professionals and deliver high quality reports
- AutoCAD / Civils 3D experience, or similar software, with 2D drawing and 3D modelling capability
- Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships
- Have an ability to communicate technical detail effectively and networking skills.
- Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC)
