The Role
The Shelford Campus Head of STEM will play a defining role in establishing a vibrant, future‑focused STEM program that reflects Caulfield Grammar School’s values, culture and commitment to high‑quality, innovative learning from the outset.
Reporting to the Head of Shelford Campus and working closely with the Campus Leadership Team and classroom teachers, you will provide vision and leadership for STEM across the Junior School, ensuring students participate in an engaging and coherent, high‑quality program that encourages creativity, problem‑solving, and real‑world thinking.
You will lead and support STEM and classroom teachers, building staff capability through coaching, modelling and professional learning, while fostering a collaborative and dynamic culture. Maintaining an active teaching presence, you will model exemplary STEM practice and promote engaging, hands‑on learning experiences for students.
Central to this role is the design and delivery of innovative STEM curriculum, aligned to best practice in pedagogy, assessment and reporting. You will also coordinate STEM events, initiatives, competitions and community engagement opportunities, contributing to strategic planning and the ongoing growth of STEM across the School.
This is an ongoing teaching contract, with a 3‑year Position of Responsibility as Head of STEM, based at our new Shelford Campus.
Key Duties
- Develop and enhance teaching and learning in STEM across the Junior School, establishing high‑quality, future‑focused practice as Shelford Campus opens.
- Lead the design and implementation of a coherent, engaging STEM curriculum, aligned with best practice teaching & learning, assessment and reporting.
- Provide strategic oversight and coordination of Junior School STEM programs, including classroom learning, clubs, competitions, events and enrichment opportunities to promote student engagement and innovation.
- Supervise, coach and support teachers delivering STEM learning, building capability through modelling, collaboration and professional learning.
- Work collaboratively with Campus Leadership, curriculum leaders and teachers to integrate STEM across learning areas and support consistent practice.
- Promote inclusive, hands‑on STEM learning that fosters curiosity, problem‑solving and creativity for all students.
- Manage STEM resourcing, spaces and budget, ensuring effective use of materials and technologies.
- Contribute to strategic planning, curriculum review and innovation in STEM education across the School.
- Demonstrate visible leadership through active teaching, collaboration and contribution to Campus life.
- Model and live the Caulfield Grammar School values and behaviours.
Skills and Experience
- Teaching qualification with specialist qualifications or experience in one or more STEM disciplines.
- Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
- First Aid – Level 2 and Anaphylaxis qualifications.
- Demonstrated experience teaching and leading high‑quality STEM programs in a Junior / Primary School setting.
- Strong curriculum knowledge and experience designing engaging STEM learning programs.
- Experience leading and coaching teachers to improve practice and student outcomes.
- Highly developed communication, organisational and time management skills.
- Experience working collaboratively within leadership teams and whole‑school contexts.
- Experience with the IB PYP Program (advantageous).
