Controls Engineer / Control Software Engineer

Location: East Midlands (commutable from Nottingham, Leicester, and Coventry). Salary: up to £60,000 plus benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and develop software, PLC & HMI coding for automation projects.
  • Electrical design and creation of machine control system solutions for specialised automated machinery.
  • Deliver control and safety systems that comply with the machinery directive and other applicable standards.
  • Generate detailed circuit diagrams, cable schedules, installation documents, BOMs, and bills of materials.
  • Integrate various robots (SCARA, Delta, 6‑axis) and liaise with customers, suppliers, and team members.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels and work autonomously or as part of a team to meet project budgets and timelines.
  • Follow projects from design, development, and commissioning stages for machine control and safety systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant European and international safety standards and oversee component selection and procurement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in software design and PLC coding, preferably with Omron, Siemens, and Allen Bradley equipment.
  • Proficiency in electrical design for machine automation using ePlan.
  • Knowledge of international electrical standards for machine design and safety systems (CE marking).
  • Degree level or equivalent in electrical/electronic engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites across the UK.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and within a team.
