As part of Detection and Measurement, Enterprise Control Systems (ECS) is a leading supplier of long‑range data links that support real‑time high‑resolution video transfer between air and ground users. In creating products like RF inhibitors and specialized equipment for military and security purposes, we protect ground forces and infrastructure around the world.

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As the Engineering Manager (UK) for ECS, part of the Communication Technology group within SPX, you will play a crucial role in New Product Introduction (NPI) and delivering revenue‑generating projects.

You will be joining a small dynamic team continually designing and delivering world‑beating products. As the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading the ECS Engineering Team and ensuring we deliver on our key initiatives. You will be process oriented and ideally have experience managing teams involved in New Product Development (NPD), revenue‑generating projects and sustaining engineering.

This is an opportunity to work in a fast‑paced but rewarding environment on RF technologies across a number of exciting markets including defense and aviation. Managing a technical team responsible for Embedded SW, hardware, mechanical, systems and RF design, you will own resource planning and execution to meet current and projected department initiatives in support of the Director of Engineering.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Partner with the Director of Engineering to drive success across key initiatives.
  2. Line management of Engineering team consisting of multiple disciplines.
  3. Lead resource planning for Engineering Initiatives (NPD and revenue‑generating).
  4. Interface with internal stakeholders throughout product lifecycle ensuring Engineering meets our commitments to the wider business.
  5. Create and uphold processes and procedures along with supporting audits.
  6. Project‑manage key Engineering projects including NPI and revenue‑generating projects.
  7. Own and report on Engineering’s key performance indicators (KPIs).
  8. Engineering representative for sales order acknowledgements and other key meetings.
  9. Contribute to technical design and development in collaboration with other key senior engineers such as Chief Engineer & Principal Engineers.
  10. Technical reviews and approval.

What we are looking for

Required Experience

  • The following skills and experience will be required. Candidates are not expected to have experience in all areas:
  • Experience in delivering technical projects and products.
  • Experience working in small to medium sized business.
  • Line management.
  • Project management.
  • Experience of working in an ISO 9001 environment and managing processes and procedures.
  • Appreciation of engineering tasks to aid planning and technical acumen.
  • Self‑motivated and enthusiastic.
  • Strong team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • A can‑do attitude with a willingness to help others.
  • Ability to produce results under pressure.
  • Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • An understanding of products aligned with CommTech’s (TCI & ECS) portfolio.
  • Experience of project and line management in the defence or aviation industry.
  • Experience of reporting to senior management.
  • AMP, Prince2 or similar certification.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent in relevant subject (or equivalent work experience).
  • Security: British citizen or ability to obtain required security clearance.
  • Travel & working environment: Travel is unlikely. Onsite working (Wappenham, UK) with option for working from home (3 office/2 WFH).
