Overview
ELFT, a CQC‑rated Outstanding Trust, is developing a new Front Door Service at the interface of primary and secondary mental health care. This 0.6 FTE post requires a multidisciplinary lead who will provide consultant leadership and operate as a single point of entry for urgent and non‑urgent referrals in the City & Hackney area.
Main responsibilities
- Lead a well‑resourced MDT including resident doctor, senior practitioners and psychology professionals.
- Provide joint clinical leadership with the senior Psychologist; liaise with neighbourhood/Quadrant psychiatrists and deliver medical input and oversight.
- Supervise and support the team, including risk assessment and evidence‑based interventions for psychosis, mood disorders and bi‑comorbidity.
- Participate in assessment of referred patients, co‑produce formulations addressing psychiatric, physical, psychological and social needs, and develop care plans.
- Attend daily referrals meetings, triage referrals, decide allocation of assessors and referral routing.
- Communicate with patients’ GPs and multidisciplinary team members regarding treatment plans.
Essential person specification
- Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent.
- Fully registered with the GMC; eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register (or Specialist Registrar within 6 months of CCT).
- Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification based on RCPsych Guidelines.
- Approved Clinician status (MHA 2007) or eligibility.
- Experience as a General Adult Psychiatrist (ST4–6) or Consultant level within the last 3 years.
- Experience and knowledge of psychopharmacology, community adult psychiatry, application of the Mental Health Act.
- Understanding of the social aspects relevant to psychiatry.
- Ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team and provide leadership.
- Expertise in risk assessment and evidence‑based interventions for psychosis, mood disorders and comorbidities.
- Commitment to clinical governance.
- Excellent oral and written communication; ability to manage complex workloads.
- Cultural sensitivity and working with diverse populations.
- Commitment to continuing professional development.
- Physical – able to travel between sites as required.
Desirable criteria
- Higher degree in a relevant area.
- Knowledge & experience of recovery‑informed service delivery; working with patients as experts by experience.
- Experience in teaching junior staff, training and supervising junior medical staff and other disciplines.
- Medical education qualification.
- Interest in supervising research, audit or QI projects; published research.
- Management, performance and leadership courses.
